About Angels
Everybody knows about angels... well, at least on some level. And it seems that more people are talking about angels than ever before.
Today there are boutiques devoted to angels, and greeting cards, poetry, songs, and books portraying them in all their goodness. We even take these wonderful "angelic" qualities and apply them to a sweetheart, spouse, kids, or special people. Billy Graham, in his popular book on angels, states, "Angels have a much more important place in the Bible than the devil and his demons."' The Bible is chock-full of dramatic angelic appearances.
. . Abraham, Jacob, Moses, Joshua, Gideon, David, Elijah, Zechariah, Joseph, Mary, and Peter, along with others, saw angels. Angels in the
Bible are seen in many roles ... climbing ladders, wrestling with people, taming lions, lifting great weights, announcing births, recruiting leaders, warriors in battle, executioners, performing miraculous rescues, and comforting people.
Two angels are mentioned by name ... Michael and Gabriel. Michael is depicted in three biblical books as the "Great Prince" or archangel; Gabriel is shown as presiding over paradise.
So what are angels? We know, according to the Bible, that they are
created beings, dignified, majestic, and intelligent. They are personal
beings who always represent God but are not omnipresent, which God
is. Little is said of their appearance, but they can take on the physi-
cal form of a person and sometimes are mistaken for another human
being. The word "angel" simply means "messenger." They are seen
as protectors, messengers ordered by God to minister in a myriad of
ways in the Bible.
Some things to note: At no time should an angel or angels be
worshiped! The Bible is very clear that only God is to be worshiped.
Second, we are not to pray to angels! You might ask God for help in
an emergency, but we are never to pray to angels. Let's open our eyes
and ears of understanding and ask God to help us develop a healthy
balance in regard to His angels.
This book is a collection of "angel" stories ... to my knowledge
all of the following are presented as true, factual, real-life stories. They
have not been researched beyond the accounts of the people who ex
perienced them. The stories are taken at face value as shared. I believe
that angels exist! You be the judge. Read on and rejoice!
Today's Quote: Angels are "incorporated spirits created by God to
worship Him and carry out His will." - Billy Graham
Today's Verse: For by Him all things were created: things in heaven
and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rul-
ers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him (Col.
1:16).
