Foreword
As I read through "Effective Jail and Prison Ministry for the 21st Century", my initial thought was the magnitude of this project - that it contained the combined wisdom of men who, collectively, have over four centuries of prison ministry experience. That in itself makes it worth reading for anyone who feels a serious call from God on their life to minister to those in prison.
This book includes a diversity of thoughts from men from a number of denominational and theological backgrounds. This can be viewed as a plus or a minus, depending on one's view of denominationalism and the body of Christ. Without question, it does give the book content a broader view of ministry.
So my recommendation is to do what I have done. Enjoy the whole book, keeping in mind the diversity of the authors so not to stumble over small points of doctrine. Eat the meat and leave the bones - there is plenty on which to feast. Then use this manual to lift your vision and expound your outreach to today's fruitful criminal justice mission field!
